Britannia Community Services Centre pool, one of Vancouver's busiest, remains closed following an unexpected failure of pool basin tiles that forced the facility to shut down Friday evening, September 13.

Park Board staff drained the pool and completed repairs to the affected tiles. The next steps involve refilling, treating, and heating the water to meet Vancouver Coastal Health requirements. The city is targeting a reopening later this week, barring unforeseen issues during refilling and commissioning.

The closure comes as Vancouver deals with multiple pool pressures. The Vancouver Aquatic Centre closed June 28 for major renewal, and as HOC reported in August, another closure sparked swim club frustration. City staff are reviewing capacity at other recreation centres to reallocate lane space and program time for displaced Britannia users.

Britannia is also scheduled for critical systems maintenance in mid-January 2027—an upgrade originally planned for November that was postponed to help local clubs and swimmers continue accessing the facility through their season.
