A 37-year-old Surrey man is facing 22 criminal charges in connection with four shooting incidents spanning from December 2025 to August 2026, with a bail hearing scheduled and next court appearance set for September 16.
Marco Matias was arrested in connection with three shootings at a residence near 110 Avenue and 140 Street in Guildford. The first incident occurred on December 7, 2025, with two additional shootings at the same location on December 27 and December 28. The BC Prosecution Service approved 12 charges against Matias on August 24 related to these incidents, including three counts of reckless discharge of a firearm, three counts of possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, three counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, and three counts of possession of a firearm contrary to an order.
On August 12, 2026, Surrey police responded to a fourth shooting near 60 Avenue and 177 Street. Two people were shot at in that incident, with one sustaining minor injuries. The suspect fled the scene but was later identified. On September 4, the BC Prosecution Service approved 10 additional charges against Matias, including two counts of discharging a firearm, one count of aggravated assault, two counts of carrying, using, or threatening to use a weapon or imitation weapon, and charges related to unauthorized firearm possession and possession of a firearm with an altered or removed serial number.
Matias remains in custody. HighOnCity reported in July that police were investigating shots fired at a Cloverdale residence in an early-morning incident, and in August that a Surrey shooting outside a Newton home had been classified as extortion-related.
