Construction on Metro Vancouver's Delta-South Surrey Greenway extension is set to begin in 2028, with design completion and construction tendering finishing in 2027. The project will wrap up by 2029, and a Phase II extension will begin in 2030.

The $11 million Phase I project creates a multi-use route with improved flood resiliency, connecting to the Delta Nature Reserve boardwalk and establishing a new regional greenway link. The current trail functions as an access route to the nature reserve and as a utility corridor for Metro Vancouver Liquid Waste Services.

The existing Phase I greenway runs from Mud Bay in the south to 64 Avenue at its northern end, providing connections to the Boundary Bay dike trail in Delta, Mud Bay Park and Joe Brown Park in Surrey, and Watershed Park in North Delta. The extension will fill gaps in this network.

As HighOnCity reported in July, the B.C. government fast-tracked a $2-billion Tilbury LNG expansion in Delta, which is reshaping how the region develops major infrastructure projects.
