A former RCMP officer from Bowen Island has been charged with sharing classified information with people he was in a relationship with.

Michael Scoretz, 47, faces 13 charges including seven counts of breach of trust. Police allege he violated the Security of Information Act by disclosing protected and classified material while working with the Pacific Region Integrated National Security Enforcement Team between August 2020 and February 2023.

Scoretz retired from the RCMP last year after joining in 2009. Work-related material was found at his home during the investigation.

Mounties said none of the charges involve current national security investigations, and no investigations were compromised. The RCMP declined to release further details as the case moves through the courts.
