Four people have been rescued from the water approximately 18 kilometres southwest of Vancouver International Airport after a civilian vessel spotted them and alerted authorities.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) in Victoria received word that multiple people were floating in the water without personal flotation devices. Canadian Coast Guard crews and the Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue team responded at 11:45 a.m. on Sunday, arriving with a helicopter, a hovercraft, and a lifeboat.

All four were brought safely to shore. Search crews continued operations in the area to determine whether any additional people were in the water, though no further details have been released about the initial incident.
