As soccer fans flood bars and patios across Vancouver for the FIFA World Cup, one beer is emerging as the clear favourite: Guinness.

Interviews with bars across the city ahead of the Canada-Switzerland match Wednesday revealed Guinness as the dominant choice, though that data skews toward Granville Street, home to several Irish pubs. Other popular picks include Molson Canadian—fans showing patriotic spirit—Michelob Ultra (the official FIFA beer), and lagers like Labatt Blue and Sleeman Honey Brown.

When it comes to shots, the Jäger-bomb (a shot of Jägermeister dropped into a glass of Red Bull) emerged as the standout choice, though not all bars reported a noticeable uptick in shot sales during tournament matches.

The World Cup is reshaping drinking patterns at venues across the city, with fans packing patios and bars from morning through evening kickoffs. Whether it's pre-match fuel or post-game celebration, the beverage choices reflect both international and local preferences.
