Swiss fans visiting Vancouver for the World Cup had plenty to celebrate after their team's 2-1 victory over Canada on Wednesday, June 24, at BC Place — and they had equally enthusiastic things to say about the city itself.
Despite the loss, Canadian fans on Granville Street kept their spirits high as crowds from around the globe filled the downtown core following the match. When we spoke to Swiss supporters about their experience in Vancouver, many were extremely impressed with how the city has hosted the tournament so far.
"I love it," one Swiss fan said. "It's beautiful. Better than Switzerland." The sentiment echoed across conversations with visiting supporters, who praised the venue, the atmosphere, and the city's overall hospitality. Canada's performance aside, the match marked a historic milestone: it was the first time in World Cup history that Team Canada advanced out of the group stages.
