Update — November 06, 2026: BC Ferries has cancelled sailings on the Denman–Hornby, Campbell River–Quathiaski Cove and Quadra–Cortes routes and has issued an adverse weather warning for Friday that lists several other Strait of Georgia and Gulf Islands runs as potentially affected. Environment Canada has also issued rainfall warnings for the North Shore and Coquitlam–Maple Ridge, with up to 80 mm forecast at higher elevations, and the B.C. River Forecast Centre has issued high streamflow advisories for southwest B.C., warning of more heavy rain into next week
Gusts up to 70 km/h are forecast for parts of Metro Vancouver into the afternoon, and BC Ferries has cancelled Friday morning sailings from Tsawwassen, Horseshoe Bay and Swartz Bay. Passengers booked on cancelled runs are being contacted by the Customer Service Centre, which will say whether they can be rebooked on a later sailing or whether their booking must be cancelled, with fees and fares refunded under the cancellation policy.
Cancelled runs include four sailings from Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay and six from Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay, with Tsawwassen to Southern Gulf Islands trips off until shortly after noon. More cancellations were announced for later in the morning and early afternoon on the Tsawwassen, Swartz Bay and Duke Point routes. The ferry operator cited high winds and wave height in the Strait of Georgia as the reason.
Environment and Climate Change Canada has warned that local utility outages are possible and that loose objects should be secured. A potentially stronger storm is due Saturday evening, with a rainfall warning already in place for Metro Vancouver. Higher-elevation parts of the North Shore and communities near southern Howe Sound could see up to 80 mm of rain, and water may pool on low-lying areas and roads.
