Mission Memorial Hospital's emergency department will close temporarily on multiple nights through early July due to staffing shortages, Fraser Health announced Friday.
The ER will close at 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, and reopen Sunday, June 21, at 8 a.m. Additional closures are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday nights, June 24–26, as well as next weekend (Saturday and Sunday, June 27–28) and overnight June 30, plus July 3–4.
Fraser Health said the situation should improve later this summer, with no unstaffed physician shifts scheduled in July. The closures will begin at 5 p.m. each night to allow physicians already in the department to see existing patients before their shift ends at 11 p.m.
Emergency-trained nurses will remain available to support walk-in patients needing basic care and to redirect patients to other facilities. Anyone experiencing a life-threatening emergency—such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, or severe bleeding—should call 911 to be taken to another hospital. All other services at Mission Memorial Hospital will remain open during the closures.
