Flames ripped through the south wall and roof of the sanctuary at Surrey Alliance Church on Friday, August 14, causing significant damage to the building at 13474 96 Avenue.
The Surrey Fire Department and Surrey Police Department responded and contained the fire. The church posted a message of gratitude on its Facebook page the following afternoon: "We would like to thank the Surrey Fire Department and the Surrey Police Department for responding last night and taking care of the building to the best of their ability."
Instead of cancelling services, Pastor Mike Knott and Pastor Nick Parker held a special prayer service Sunday, August 16, in the parking lot. The church invited the congregation to bring lawn chairs. The 96 Ave Kids program screened a movie downstairs in the Fireside Room during the service.
