Transport Canada has ordered the detention of a boat operated by Top Vancouver Fishing Charter, whose 30-foot sister vessel sank in the Strait of Georgia near Vancouver on June 28, killing one person and leaving six missing and presumed drowned.

The detention order, dated Thursday, July 9, is displayed on the window of the 37-foot vessel. Transport Canada cited violations and safety deficiencies, including that the pleasure craft is being operated as a commercial passenger vessel and is not registered or marked properly.

No injuries were reported in the June incident, but the sinking raised serious questions about the operation and safety practices of the fishing charter company. The detention of the second vessel represents a regulatory response to those concerns as investigations into the fatal sinking continue.
