A 27-year-old Vancouver man lost a borrowed dealership Jeep after being stopped for excessive speeding and impaired driving on the Sea to Sky Highway on May 16.

BC Highway Patrol pulled the driver over while he was clocked at 148 km/h in a 90 km/h zone. During the stop, police noticed open liquor in the vehicle and the driver failed a roadside screening test. The white Jeep was a courtesy vehicle from a car dealership, and the driver was also operating it with a Class 5 licence—not the appropriate license class for the vehicle.

The RCMP impounded the Jeep, and the driver faces multiple violations. The stop illustrates a familiar hazard on the corridor: the convergence of speed, alcohol, and poor judgment on one of the region's most dangerous stretches of highway.

The Sea to Sky sees consistent enforcement during holiday weekends and long weekends—this is the pattern.
