Metro Vancouver braces for final heat before rain moves in this week

Metro Vancouver will experience one final day of warm weather Monday before rain returns to the region starting Tuesday night, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.

Temperatures are expected to reach 25°C inland on Monday, climbing to 28°C when factoring in the humidex effect. The UV index will be moderate at five. Closer to the water, temperatures will range between 19°C and 21°C.

The warm spell is being driven by a south-westerly flow bringing extra moisture and warmth, said ECCC meteorologist Chloe Katsademas. However, a low-pressure system moving in this week will shift conditions.

"It could begin overnight on Tuesday, with intermittent precipitation continuing on Wednesday morning," Katsademas said. "The meat of the rainfall could last most of Wednesday and into Thursday." The system is expected to linger into later in the week, with cooler air and continued moisture keeping the chance of showers alive through the long weekend.

Several days through the end of the week will see a mix of sun and clouds along with overnight cloudy periods. "While it should be clear to start the weekend, there is still a chance of showers due to continuous troughing, cooler air and moisture," Katsademas added. "And looking ahead from Sunday to Tuesday, there is another system coming."

As HighOnCity reported in July, Vancouver doesn't do extended heat like many other Canadian cities, but the region has seen multiple warm spells this summer.
