A 76-year-old man was approached on a coffee shop patio in the 1600-block of Davie Street in downtown Vancouver on September 9 shortly after 11 a.m. when someone pulled a knife and grabbed his backpack before fleeing on foot.
A nearby witness called 911 immediately and remained on the line with dispatchers, providing detailed, real-time descriptions of the suspect's movements. VPD patrol officers located and arrested the suspect a short time later without further incident.
Joshua Edward Adams, 36, has been charged with assault with a weapon and theft under $5,000. He was transported to Vancouver Jail.
"We'd like to thank the quick-thinking bystander whose detailed descriptions allowed officers to locate and quickly take the suspect into custody," said Constable Darren Wong of VPD.
