Vancouver Police boarded the vessel Night Shadow in False Creek at about 6 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, after reports that someone aboard had fired a gun with a suppressor into the water that evening.
Four individuals were found aboard and arrested. Police obtained a search warrant and seized a chrome handgun, multiple gun parts, a large extended magazine, several suppressors, baggies of suspected crystal methamphetamine, baggies of suspected fentanyl, large bags of cutting agents, dyes, scales, and drug cooking utensils. The Night Shadow was towed to a secure location. The VPD Marine Squad and Emergency Response Team conducted the operation. Charges are pending.
The seizure reflects ongoing issues with illegal vessels anchored in False Creek. HighOnCity reported in 2022 that approximately 100 illegal or decrepit boats were anchored in False Creek, and the City of Vancouver had a file documenting the situation. To legally anchor in False Creek, a free permit is required from the city, with limits of 14 of 30 days in summer and 21 of 40 days in winter.
