A man was hit by a truck in Bridgeland on Friday after snatching a bag from someone sitting on a park bench and attempting to flee, Calgary police say.
First responders were called to MacDougall Road and 9th Street N.E. around noon on Friday, June 26 for a crash involving a pedestrian and a passing trailer and truck. Police determined the crash victim had just stolen a bag from a nearby park bench and was running into northbound traffic on 9th Street when he was struck.
He was taken to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. As of Friday night, officers were still working to identify the man. Police said it was not believed alcohol, drugs, or excessive speed on the part of the driver were factors in the collision.
