Lunchbox Theatre, a Calgary institution for five decades, is moving. With its 52nd season underway, the company is relocating its base to cSPACE at 1721 29th Ave SW in Marda Loop—an artist co-operative housed in the old King Edward School.

The move reflects a shift in where Calgary's cultural energy is concentrating. Downtown remains vital, but the south-central neighbourhoods—Marda Loop chief among them—have become magnets for independent artists, galleries, studios, and creative businesses. cSPACE, a sprawling artist-run facility, is the heart of that ecosystem.

For Lunchbox, the relocation is both practical and symbolic. "To be surrounded by a community of artists in a neighbourhood that has been so welcoming and enthusiastic is a dream come true," the company said. It's a recognition that theatre thrives when it sits in neighbourhoods with energy, not just in downtown cores.

The move doesn't diminish Lunchbox's legacy—it expands its reach into a neighbourhood that's hungry for live performance and community gathering. Marda Loop residents have been waiting for this. The city's cultural map just shifted.
