An Okotoks family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help with costs related to their 22-month-old daughter's cancer treatment. Ivy Driedger has been diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma. The family expects treatment to take at least 12 months and will include chemotherapy, surgery to remove the tumour, radiation therapy, and immunotherapy.
All funds raised will help cover costs not covered by Alberta Health Services, including support and recovery medications, hearing aids, ovary preservation surgery, and expenses surrounding hospital stays and caring for two other children. Ivy's parents, Sarah and Ryan Driedger, are expecting a baby boy in September. According to the campaign, the treatment will be hard on Ivy's body and carries potential long-term effects on her organs and hearing.
Ivy has already begun chemotherapy treatments. The GoFundMe was organized by Brooke and Mitchell Best and has reached over $30,000, just shy of its $35,000 goal. "Above all, Sarah, Ryan, and our entire family believe in the power of prayer. We ask that you lift Ivy up in your prayers," the page states.
