CBSA seizes 215.5 kilograms of cocaine in two separate truck interdictions at Coutts border

Canada Border Services Agency officers at the Coutts border crossing in southern Alberta intercepted two commercial trucks arriving from the United States in July and seized a combined more than 215 kilograms of suspected cocaine.
On July 26, the first truck was sent for secondary examination. Officers found 80 bricks of suspected cocaine in four boxes among declared cargo, totalling 90 kilograms. The driver and passenger were arrested, and the cocaine was transferred to RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region.
On July 31, a second truck was referred for secondary examination. Officers discovered 107 bricks of suspected cocaine in the shipment, weighing nearly 125 kilograms. The driver was arrested by CBSA officers, and RCMP Federal Policing Northwest Region took custody of the driver and the narcotics. Both investigations remain underway.
Janalee Bell-Boychuk, a CBSA official, said in a statement: "CBSA officers are the first line of defence at ports of entry across the country. These significant cocaine seizures at the Coutts port of entry demonstrate the vigilance, expertise and dedication of our border services officers in preventing illegal drugs and other contraband from entering Canada and causing harm to our communities."
Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree said: "The Canada Border Services Agency works tirelessly to detect and disrupt drug smuggling at our borders. The strategic co-operation between the CBSA, RCMP and other law enforcement partners demonstrates Canada's unrelenting commitment to combating organized crime and protecting Canadians."
