A woman died after being struck by a CTrain at the Shaganappi Point LRT Station on Monday, July 27, around 4 p.m.
The collision occurred when the woman entered a prohibited area of the station along Bow Trail S.W. and walked onto the tracks as an eastbound train approached. The CTrain operator sounded the horn and used emergency brakes, but was unable to prevent the impact. Paramedics transported the woman to hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Calgary Police Service said speed was not a factor in the collision. Investigators are examining whether impairment on the pedestrian's part contributed to the incident.
