A cyclist is in critical condition after colliding with a vehicle on Macleod Trail on Thursday, July 9 at approximately 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of 71 Avenue and Macleod Trail.

The cyclist sustained life-threatening injuries, according to Calgary police. The driver of the van remained uninjured and stayed at the scene.

Southbound Macleod Trail was shut down between 69 Avenue and 73 Avenue SE while police investigated the circumstances of the crash.

This collision comes less than three weeks after a fatal vehicle-cyclist crash on June 20, when a man in his 60s died after being struck by an SUV while northbound on Centre Street North near 20 Avenue. Police said the driver of the SUV, in his 70s, had suffered a medical incident at the time.
