A cyclist is in critical condition after colliding with a vehicle on Macleod Trail on Thursday afternoon, July 9.

Calgary Police responded to the incident at around 1:30 p.m. near the intersection of 71 Avenue and Macleod Trail S.E. Officers found the cyclist with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the minivan remained at the scene and was uninjured.

Southbound Macleod Trail was shut down between 69 Avenue and 73 Avenue S.E. while police investigated the circumstances of the crash.

This incident comes less than three weeks after Calgary's last fatal vehicle-cyclist collision on June 20, when a man in his 60s died after being struck by an SUV on Centre Street North near 20 Avenue. Police believe the SUV driver had suffered a medical incident at the time of that crash.
