One arrested after shooting at Victoria Park CTrain station leaves two in stable condition

Police arrested Mostafa Jaffari, 25, after an argument aboard the CTrain erupted into gunfire at the Victoria Park/Stampede station Saturday night, leaving two people shot.
Three men were arguing on the train shortly before 8 p.m. When all three exited at the Victoria Park/Stampede platform, one man opened fire, shooting the other two. Both victims were taken to Foothills Medical Centre in stable condition.
Jaffari fled the scene but was arrested downtown by police shortly after. He faces two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of discharging a firearm, and one count of possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order. He was remanded in custody and appeared in court on August 5.
"Brazen acts of violence like this have no place in Calgary and have a lasting impact on the community," Acting Staff Sgt. Corey Der said. "By needlessly putting members of the public at risk, the offender demonstrated a complete disregard for the safety of others."
