Calgary police have arrested two more men in connection with a long-running extortion investigation targeting members of the South Asian community, as the case continues to escalate.

Sandeep Singh, 30, and Amandeep Mallhi, 39, both of Calgary, now face extortion and possession of proceeds of crime charges following their arrest on May 28. They are scheduled to appear in court Monday.

The latest charges stem from a May 5 threat against a northeast Calgary business owner in Saddle Ridge. Police say the suspect demanded money and threatened to shoot the owner, their friends, and their family if they didn't comply. When the victim reported the call, the Organized Crime & Offender Management team launched an immediate investigation, leading to the May 28 arrests and search warrant execution at a home on Saddlestone Way NE.

Since the extortion series began in April 2025, Calgary has recorded 46 related incidents, including 19 shootings at homes, businesses, or vehicles. Fourteen people have now been charged with 54 offences connected to the investigation. Police say they're working with the Canada Border Services Agency and other law enforcement partners to dismantle the operation. Anyone with information is asked to call 403-266-1234 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
