An independent police watchdog is investigating after Edmonton police shot and killed a man during a domestic violence call in the Donsdale neighbourhood on September 13, leaving a woman with a gunshot wound and an infant injured.
Edmonton police responded around 10 a.m. to a 911 report of domestic violence involving an active shooter at a home in the area. Officers contained the scene as two women and an infant escaped. A man emerged from the home wielding a shotgun. Police ordered him to drop the weapon. He refused, and officers fired, killing him at the scene. Tactical paramedics attempted life-saving measures.
One woman inside the home was treated in hospital for a gunshot wound; her injuries were non-life-threatening and she was released. The infant sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also released from hospital after treatment.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is continuing its investigation and said it will provide more information as it becomes available.
