A 36-year-old man died after Edmonton police opened fire on him Sunday morning in a Donsdale-area home where he had shot a woman and infant.
Police responded to reports of a shooting at a residence near Donsdale Drive and 45 Avenue at approximately 9:59 a.m. on Sunday, September 13. When the man opened the door armed with a firearm and failed to comply with verbal commands, three Edmonton police officers discharged their weapons. He died on scene. A tactical emergency medical support team attempted life-saving measures.
Two adult women and an infant were transported by EMS to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Police Review Commission was notified, and Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been directed to investigate the officer-involved shooting.
