Nav Canada's golf tournament moves to Leduc June 23
Annual STARS Air Ambulance fundraiser celebrates 26 years and new home at Leduc Golf Club.
The Edmonton Charitable Endeavors Committee (ECEC) is bringing its annual STARS Air Ambulance Golf Tournament to Leduc for the first time—and they plan to stay.
The tournament, now in its 26th year, kicks off at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, at Leduc Golf Club. The shift from Beaumont's Coloniale Golf Club represents a permanent move, according to Rick Hubbs, an ECEC member and current Air Traffic Controller at Edmonton International Airport.
"Because of the interest of the people, the businesses, and the community, we want to keep the tournament in Leduc forever," Hubbs said.
Last year's event at Coloniale raised just over $20,000. The committee is aiming to double that this year, driven by increased local support and sponsorship interest. The tournament draws a mix of golfers, business sponsors, and community members united around STARS' mission—critical care in the air, delivered by helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft to trauma patients across Western Canada.
The day includes a full round of golf, catered meal, prize drawings, and interactive booths at each hole. "We have lots of fun on the golf course," Hubbs said. "It's a community event, where people are beginning to know each other."
The ECEC is comprised of current and retired air traffic controllers who've spent decades fundraising for STARS. Their passion for the cause runs deep—many have witnessed the life-saving work firsthand.
