Three elderly residents have died in hospital following a residential fire in Markham early Friday morning.
Emergency crews responded to Carlton Road and Kennedy Road around 6:46 a.m. for reports of two detached homes on fire. Firefighters rescued three residents — two women in their 70s and a man in his 80s — from the scene with various injuries. All three were brought to a local hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
Police confirmed Sunday morning that all three victims had died. There is no indication the fire is suspicious, and the incident is being treated as a standard fire investigation. Footage from the scene showed extensive damage and heavy plumes of smoke from the home.
