A barn used by the City of Toronto for storage was heavily damaged by fire at the historic Cornell Campbell House property in Scarborough late Saturday night.
Emergency crews were called to the grounds on Kingston Road just east of Markham Road just before 11 p.m. Toronto Fire Services found the barn fully engulfed in flames. Toronto Paramedics responded but no one required treatment.
The cause of the fire and circumstances leading up to it remained unknown as of Sunday. The investigation is ongoing.
The Cornell Campbell House, built in 1858, sits on the property and was designated historically significant in 1979. According to the Scarborough Historical Society, the property is meant to showcase life in the area during the early 1900s. The barn fire is the latest in a string of fires affecting Toronto properties. HighOnCity reported a highrise fire in early August that killed one person, and a suspicious fire at a Scarborough strip mall in late July.
