TTC rolling out service increases and overnight routes for World Cup
Starting Sunday, the transit authority will boost service on key lines and launch new overnight streetcar routes to handle crowds at BMO Field and waterfront festival sites.
The TTC is launching a major overhaul of service starting Sunday, June 7, to handle thousands of visitors arriving for FIFA World Cup matches and fan events. The changes include new overnight streetcar routes, service boosts on key lines, and temporary detours designed to keep crowds moving around Toronto Stadium, Exhibition Place, Fort York, and The Bentway. Route 307 Bathurst will no longer run south of Bloor Street West due to road restrictions on Fort York Boulevard. Service between Bloor and Exhibition Loop will be replaced by a new temporary overnight route, 311 Bathurst, running every 20 minutes between St. Clair Avenue West and Exhibition Loop, including a new stop on Fleet Street between Fort York and Strachan. Route 504 King will see more frequent weekday service during tournament days. Route 309 Harbourfront is a new temporary overnight service running every 20 minutes between Exhibition Loop and Union Station, serving the new Fleet Street stop and providing continuous service into early Sunday and holiday mornings until subways open. Routes 509 and 511 will also see increased service. Route 510 Spadina is being shortened to run only between Spadina Station and Queens Quay Loop to free up vehicles for the expanded 509. The TTC says the changes are designed to handle heavy crowds while keeping overnight travel running smoothly for fans, workers, and residents.
