If you're taking the subway to a World Cup match or the FIFA Fan Festival, factor in extra travel time—the TTC has multiple slow orders in place across Line 1 that could noticeably affect your commute.

These reduced-speed zones are introduced when inspectors find deficiencies in the track system. Work continues while service runs, but trains move slower than usual—sometimes dramatically so. Between Sheppard-Yonge and York Mills, southbound trains are capped at 25 km/h instead of the usual 56 km/h. The southbound stretch between Eglinton and Davisville is also reduced to 25 km/h, down from 44 km/h.

Other affected areas include the northbound stretch between Museum and St. George (15 km/h), southbound Dupont to Spadina (20 km/h, down from 57 km/h), and Wilson to Yorkdale (20 km/h southbound). The Wilson-Yorkdale restriction is expected to lift by mid-June, but the TTC hasn't provided a timeline for the others.

One slow order typically adds one to three minutes to your trip, so riding through multiple zones could meaningfully extend your commute. The transit agency says crews are working as fast as possible to complete the track work.
