A 29-year-old Toronto woman has been arrested in connection with a hate-motivated assault in downtown Toronto over the weekend.

Police responded to an assault in the area of Dundas and Sherbourne streets on Sunday, June 21. According to investigators, the suspect approached the victim from behind and shoved her to the ground, causing her to fall into the roadway. During the assault, the woman allegedly made anti-East Asian comments toward the victim.

Thalia Barber was charged with assault on Tuesday. The victim sustained minor injuries. The investigation is being treated as a suspected hate-motivated offence, and Barber is scheduled to appear in court on September 14.
