A new West Coast lager called 54-40 Ocean Pearl, brewed to celebrate a new bike route connecting Ladner and Tsawwassen, launches this summer ahead of the Barns to Beaches Festival.
The beer is a collaboration between Four Winds Brewing, which made it; Barnside Brewing, which grew the local Cascade and Vista hops; and 54-40, the Delta-rooted band that wrote the song Ocean Pearl in a warehouse studio near the brewery. The original recipe was developed jointly by all three parties.
According to Four Winds general manager Adam Mills, the West Coast lager has "a little bit more of a hop flavour than your average lager," with hints of citrus and pine. "It's really dry, clean, super light, refreshing," Mills said.
The beer will be available for the next few weeks throughout the Lower Mainland, Interior, and Vancouver Island. Four Winds has initially brewed 5,000 litres, but Mills said if demand continues, more Ocean Pearl could be produced.
The Barns to Beaches Festival takes place June 20 at Southlands in Tsawwassen. The City of Delta is launching the event to celebrate the new 16-kilometre Barns to Beaches bike route connecting north Ladner and Tsawwassen. The festival includes a bike ride starting and finishing at Southlands and features a live performance by 54-40.
