Two eggs, your choice of protein, a hashbrown and toast will cost you $14 at Jimmy's Place, the breakfast counter tucked into a strip mall at 435 North Road G in Coquitlam. The restaurant has been there since 1984, and there is no big sign on the mall to find it by, so you find it the way regulars did: by word of mouth.

The James family took over 15 years ago and kept the menu built around the hashbrown, a golden brown crispy one that a reviewer who visited says is the thing to order. If you want something heavier, a ham Benedict with a golden hashbrown runs $16. The coffee keeps coming, since refills are unlimited, which is a big part of why the same faces show up week after week.

If you've been going since the early years, you'll recognize the hashbrown. If you haven't, a $14 breakfast on North Road is a fair place to start.
