Honest to Pete is bringing its signature coffee roasting operation from Mount Pleasant to downtown Vancouver with a new café opening mid-July at CBC Plaza.
The Mount Pleasant roaster will occupy "The Shack," the former JJ Bean location at 740 Hamilton Street. Owner Peter Stannard said crews are working through permitting and inspections before opening. "We're trying to get rid of all the JJ Bean red and putting our own stamp on it, moving our equipment in, then Vancouver Coastal Health comes in, checks it out, and then we're open," Stannard said.
Unlike the Mount Pleasant location at 2109 Alberta Street, the downtown café will cater to office workers and commuters. The new space allows Honest to Pete to expand its food offerings beyond house-baked goods and coffee — the downtown menu will include breakfast sandwiches, paninis, lunch sandwiches, juices, and quick bites. In the future, the business is seeking patio permits and plans to collaborate with a local cider company for afternoon and evening cider programs on the plaza. Honest to Pete's ground coffee is now available at 12 retailer locations across Metro Vancouver, including City Avenue Market on Commercial Drive.
