Nana's Green Tea opens downtown with free matcha giveaways this weekend
Tokyo-born chain celebrates 25 years with matcha drinks and parfaits at new Hornby Street location.
Nana's Green Tea, the Tokyo-born matcha café, opens its second Vancouver location at 869 Hornby Street this weekend, tucked into a space shared with ZUBU Ramen across from Scotiabank Theatre.
To mark the brand's 25th anniversary, the café is giving away 600 free matcha drinks or parfaits across three giveaway sessions on Saturday and Sunday—at 11 a.m., 4 p.m., and 9 p.m. each day, limited to 100 customers per session. The place is expecting big lineups around those times. Those who miss the giveaway can still take advantage of a special promotion: selected matcha drinks and parfaits for $10 from June 6 to 12, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The downtown space features self-serve kiosks and a floral-themed vibe with soft music and views of busy Hornby Street. On a preview visit, a Cold Matcha Latte was smooth, refreshing, and not overly sweet—a balanced matcha flavour that works in summer heat. The Matcha Shiratama Parfait, layered with soft mochi, ice cream, and rich matcha notes, delivered the dessert experience the brand is known for.
Nana's, which uses Kyoto-sourced matcha and blending techniques from Japan's Edo Period, has built a loyal following for matcha soft serve, parfaits, tiramisu, and burnt Basque cheesecake. The chain arrived in Canada in 2018 at a Kerrisdale location before moving to Mount Pleasant. With over 90 stores globally, this downtown outpost captures the weekend matcha crowd at peak season.
It's the kind of opening that catches the city's sweet tooth at exactly the right moment.
