A new shawarma restaurant is opening at the corner of Hamilton and West Georgia, less than a month after Popeyes fried chicken closed its three-year run at the location in the CBC building.
Shawarma Time has begun signage, though no official timeline or menu has been announced yet. The incoming restaurant currently has no digital footprint — no website, no social media presence — so details remain sparse.
It's not affiliated with the Shawarma Time food truck based in Chilliwack. However, the new spot shares a logo with Shelby's Shawarma, an Ontario-based chain and the official shawarma of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Inquiries to Shelby's about the connection have not yet been answered.
The location marks another tenant cycling through the ground floor of the CBC building, one of downtown's busier retail corridors. The block sits blocks from the Granville entertainment district and near several transit connections, making it a natural spot for quick-service food.
