Dachi, the 40-seat neighbourhood gem on East Hastings, is hosting an Island Vibes pop-up on Sunday, July 5, bringing together friends from across the Pacific Northwest.
Mikey from A Sunday in August — the natural-wine producer on Salt Spring Island — will pour new releases, including an exclusive Tourist collaboration wine. Sean from Tourist, a wine bar in Victoria, will man the grill cooking burgers. Jiwon will handle the kitchen, crafting Korean tacos and BBQ sides. The afternoon runs from noon to 5 p.m., walk-in only, no reservations needed.
Dachi's menu rotates every other day, built around what local producers bring that morning — shellfish arrives at 4:30 p.m., service starts at 5 p.m. The restaurant, run by Aburi Restaurant Canada veterans Miki Ellis and Stephen Whiteside, sources in small quantities and prints new menus constantly. A summer kick-off with island friends captures exactly what Dachi is about: hyper-local, seasonal, and built on real relationships with makers.
