Starting Wednesday, June 24, Kali Collective will gather women in Charleson Park for a 90-minute movement circle that combines yoga, tea ceremony, and something called "silk fan flow"—a flowing movement practice with colourful fans that, according to organizer Talia Brookes, makes participants "look like fairies" as evening light hits the silks.
Brookes, a licensed yoga instructor and former dancer in tap, ballet, and contemporary styles, discovered silk fan flow in festival and electronic music scenes as an adult. "I think that's why I'm also so passionate about this, because it's more than just dancing to look good or dancing for fitness. It's really about the embodiment of how it feels to be comfortable and to explore," she says. "And of course, I feel fans also make it look beautiful."
Each session begins with a welcome ceremony and positive intention-setting on the grass, grounding participants with the earth and each other. After opening ceremony, Brookes guides the group through yoga and silk fan flow. The session closes with savasana (guided rest), tea, and shared reflection.
No prior yoga or fan experience is required. Bring a towel, blanket, or mat if you want one—the session happens on grass. Classes will be cancelled if there's rain or if the group moves indoors; you'll receive a full refund if that happens.
Sessions run Wednesdays at 6 p.m., starting June 24 and continuing through the summer. Drop-in tickets are $35. Register online.
