The Templars, legendary Long Island street punk and Oi! band, headline a stacked bill at Vancouver's Cobalt tonight, marking their return to the city for the first time since October 2002.
The show is sold out, though very limited tickets may be available at the door when doors open at 7 p.m. First on the bill is Toy Tiger, fronted by Bugsy Faithfull, who helped resurrect the Cobalt as a punk venue last year. Faithfull has been a skinhead for longer than he hasn't and credits the Templars with helping him find his identity in the subculture as a teenager.
The full lineup also includes Abbotsford-based Mad World playing their Vancouver debut, Winnipeg's Pure Impact, Vancouver's Pura Mania (who sing primarily in Spanish and feature former members of local punk bands Sore Points and Spectres), and Greg Huff's new band First Attack. Huff, previously with Bishops Green, has gravelled his voice and shifted to a more guitar-centric sound with First Attack.
The 2002 show was poorly attended—roughly six to eight skinheads in the audience—but left attendees grateful. This time, the band will bring vinyl to the show, a rarity given how rarely their music appears in stores locally. Across the street at the American, a reggae recovery day is planned Saturday from noon to 5 p.m.
