Canada's men's soccer team faces Morocco on Saturday, July 4 at 10 a.m., and tens of thousands of fans will be seeking seats across the city. With the early start time, booking ahead or arriving early is essential at most venues.
The official FIFA Fan Festival at Hastings Park in East Vancouver is the largest watch party venue. Central to the setup is the recently built Freedom Mobile Arch amphitheatre, which has some ticketed seats (nearly sold out) and a free first-come, first-served standing-room-only area. The festival also has match screens at the park stage with a calmer atmosphere.
Canada Soccer House at The Shipyards in North Vancouver is the official Canada Soccer free watch party, expected to draw similar crowd size and energy. Granville Island will have seating for up to 1,000 with a big screen. Jack Poole Plaza hosts TSN pundits and will draw crowds for the Canada game.
Downtown Vancouver has numerous options. Junction Public Market at the northern end of Granville Street will show the game for free surrounded by food stalls and is dog-friendly. Canada Square at the Library Square Pub will show the game on screens inside and outside with tickets starting at $30 including a beer. Parq Casino has a 50-foot screen on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Boston Pizza outside BC Place, dubbed "World Cup House" for the tournament, opens at 9 a.m. for the game with 400 seats and reserved or walk-up seating. Red Card, the soccer-focused pub on Granville Street, opens at 9:30 a.m. first-come, first-seated. Nearby, Uva and Cibo Trattoria will also be open early.
In the West End, Score will open at 9:30 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Fionn Maccool's will be open but reservations are needed. Cabana, a nightclub, will be open during daylight hours from 9 a.m. to noon with big screens, DJ, and food, free entry with tables at $44 and booths (up to 10 people) at $107. The American on Main Street opens at 9 a.m. for walk-ins.
For Morocco fans, Moltaqa (the Michelin-recommended Yaletown restaurant) opens at 9:15 a.m. with a $37 Moroccan breakfast and several screens set up for the game. Cineplex is showing the game at the International Village and at theatres in Coquitlam, Langley, and Mission.
Outside the core, UBC will have free screens at Norman Mackenzie Square. The Rio in East Vancouver offers free tickets with a $5 reservation option (limited space). In Metro Vancouver, Langley Events Centre hosts a free community watch party starting at 9 a.m. with concessions and a licensed beer garden. Surrey's soccer zones at Civic Plaza and Cloverdale Agriplex feature live music, games, and beer gardens. Burnaby's The Amazing Brentwood shows the game on an outdoor screen for free. Maple Ridge's Memorial Peace Park hosts a viewing party coinciding with the Farmers Market, gates opening at 9 a.m. Blue Mountain Park in Coquitlam opens at 9 a.m. for a family-friendly party. Delta's Ladner hosts a free fan festival with an outdoor screen and family activities, and the North Delta Recreation Centre also shows the game for free. Chilliwack's Central Park watch party starts just before 10 a.m.
