Rafaella Petrolacci opened L'Appartement at 2581 West Broadway after 13 years of living between Paris and Vancouver, seeking a retail space that felt like home. The boutique and accompanying e-commerce site blend the ease of the West Coast with the understated elegance of Parisian style.
"I created L'Appartement because I couldn't find a place in Vancouver that felt like me," Petrolacci said. "Living between Paris and Vancouver, I've always been drawn to pieces that work both for a no-nonsense, casual lifestyle, and that also bring a bit of joy—something to elevate the day and infuse it with style."
The shop stocks French and Italian brands including Des Petits Hauts, Le Mont St Michel, and A Punto B, along with womenswear, accessories, jewelry, and footwear. Most are unique to the boutique or have limited availability in Vancouver. Petrolacci selected each brand personally, drawn by her own years of wearing them and understanding the designers' intentions, backgrounds, and ethics.
"It's a small boutique inspired by the feeling of a Parisian apartment and closet more than a traditional retail space," she explains. "I wanted it to feel personal, intimate and a little bit like discovering beautiful things in someone's home. The selection reflects my own life between Paris and Vancouver: pieces that are easy to live in, but that still bring personality, colour and a sense of pleasure to getting dressed."
The store deliberately avoids cliché. Every piece—from casual everyday wear to statement accessories—aims to work as effortlessly in Vancity weather as on a Parisian street.
