The North Shore Inline Hockey League is voicing concerns that planned renovations at North Vancouver's Karen Magnussen Community Recreation Centre could eliminate the entire 2027 season.

Ruth MacKenzie, acting president of the league, is worried the scope and timing of the upgrades will prevent the facility from hosting games. The North Vancouver Recreation & Culture Commission is inviting tenders from qualified contractors for regrouting the pool chamber, changerooms and washrooms at the centre during its annual pool maintenance shutdown from Nov. 14, 2026 to Dec. 20, 2026.

The renovation window falls during what would normally be the league's season-planning period, raising questions about whether the facility will be available for league use when play is scheduled to begin.

In June, HighOnCity reported that West Vancouver was studying replacement options for its aging ice arena and seniors centre. Then in July, North Vancouver opened its recreation centre, which includes pools and an ice rink—the facility the inline league now depends on.

MacKenzie declined to specify how many teams and players would be affected by a potential season cancellation, but emphasized the league's reliance on the Karen Magnussen venue. The timing of the renovation work and its duration remain central concerns for league organizers hoping to avoid what would be a complete loss of play.
