A long-time West End resident is recovering from injuries sustained in an assault by two teenagers riding a single Lime scooter near Comox and Denman late Monday night, June 24.
Blake Elliott said he was walking near the intersection when he heard shouting. Two teenagers riding one scooter then pushed him down, and he struck a tree, leaving him bleeding and with a busted eye that he still struggles to see out of.
"I laid there for quite a while, bleeding," Elliott said. He praised a passerby who drove him to hospital, calling that person a Good Samaritan.
The Vancouver Police Department issued only seven violation tickets for e-scooter sidewalk use throughout all of 2025. Elliott is now calling for stronger enforcement of e-scooter violations in the area.
"They don't stop at the corner here, and at nighttime, sometimes there's 6, 8 of them at a time," Elliott said. "Police can't be everywhere, but there's been absolutely no enforcement."
Lime reminded users that riders must be at least 18 years old in Vancouver and said it continues to monitor rider behaviour for compliance.
