Several Vancouver flights were delayed Thursday after an Air Canada aircraft veered off the runway at Montréal International Airport (YUL).
Air Canada flight AC774, a Boeing 737 MAX arriving from Los Angeles, landed normally but then exited the taxiway, coming to rest in the grass. All 156 passengers and six crew members were safely deplaned and transported to the terminal. No injuries were reported.
The incident occurred as the aircraft was taxiing after landing. Air Canada says it will tow the aircraft to the Montreal Air Canada hangar for a full inspection and is undertaking a detailed investigation to determine the cause.
NAV Canada attributed the incident, along with turbulent weather, to delays for flights to and from Montreal on Thursday evening. Several flights from Montreal to Vancouver were delayed following the incident, with arrivals originally scheduled at 7 p.m., 7:50 p.m., and 8:59 p.m. affected. An 8:16 p.m. arrival was cancelled.
Air Canada has revised its ticketing policy so passengers can make changes to their booking without penalty, space permitting, for flights departing Thursday. Travelers should check their flight status with their airline and Vancouver International Airport before heading to the airport.
