Kane Carter has been sentenced to concurrent lifetime jail sentences with parole eligibility after 17 years for the shooting deaths of 15-year-old Alfred Wong and 23-year-old Kevin Whiteside.

The BC Prosecution Service confirmed Thursday, July 9 that the court also imposed a lifetime firearms ban, a DNA order, and a $200 victim fine surcharge. Carter was convicted in December 2025 following a retrial that began in October 2025.

Police believed Carter, who was known to be involved with gangs, was in Vancouver to shoot a rival who was having dinner at a restaurant near Broadway and Ontario Street in Mount Pleasant on January 13, 2018. Wong was a bystander at the scene. Carter was arrested in Ontario in 2022 after a jury deadlock forced the initial trial to be retried.
