Vancouver Police are investigating a random assault that left a man seriously injured near Nelson and Richards streets Thursday night.
A couple visiting from out of town was walking back to their hotel from a concert at approximately 11:45 p.m. when a stranger approached from behind and punched one of them in the face. The victim fell to the ground, striking his head on the pavement, and was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The suspect fled toward Granville Street and remains at large.
Police described the suspect as a white man between 5'5" and 5'8" tall, aged 20 to 35, with a medium build. He was wearing fingerless gloves at the time of the attack.
Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the assault or has CCTV footage from the area to contact Vancouver Police.
