Suspect in fatal Surrey stabbing shot dead by police
Two people were stabbed near Old Yale Road and Holland Park Friday; one died. Police shot the suspect during confrontation.
A man suspected of stabbing two people in Surrey was shot dead by police Friday afternoon near Holland Park.
Surrey Police Service officers responded to a reported assault around 1 p.m. at a tower in the 13300-block of Old Yale Road. They found one person with stab wounds there, then located a second stabbing victim at Holland Park.
When officers found the suspect—a man witnesses identified as being involved in both assaults—he got into a confrontation with police. During the interaction, officers shot him. He was taken to hospital with injuries but later pronounced dead.
One of the stabbing victims died at the scene. The other was taken to hospital. Both received aid from officers and paramedics.
The Independent Investigations Office of BC, the province's independent police watchdog, is investigating the shooting.
