Vancouver's run as a World Cup host city ends Tuesday night when Switzerland faces Colombia in a Round of 16 match at BC Place.
The city has hosted 13 men's World Cup matches across two venues since the tournament began, including Canada's games in June. Canada Soccer CEO Kevin Blue, speaking to the media Monday, emphasized the legacy of hosting and the breakthrough performance of Canada's national team, which won its first-ever World Cup match and advanced to the Round of 16 after never having won before.
"The word legacy is often used but the World Cup was always positioned for us as a catalyst and not a finish line," Blue said.
After Tuesday's match, eight games remain in the tournament, with the championship crown set for July 19 in New Jersey.
TSN will shut down its outdoor studio and watch party at Jack Poole Plaza after July 7. The setup—featuring views of Coal Harbour and the North Shore mountains—became a popular gathering spot over the past 3+ weeks. The FIFA Fan Festival continues through July 19, and Granville Street remains pedestrianized through the duration of the World Cup.
