L'Abattoir, one of Vancouver's most respected dining destinations, is marking 16 years in business with a new summer patio and a string of recent recognitions.
The Michelin-recommended restaurant earned Gold Awards at the 2026 Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards for Best Upscale Contemporary, Best Private Dining Room, and Best Gastown – Reader's Choice. The 18-seat patio officially opened this season at the restaurant's main level in historic Gastown, offering a streetside setting for evening cocktails, Champagne flights, and dinner.
Executive Chef Jasper Cruickshank leads the kitchen with a philosophy of technical precision and respect for British Columbia's producers. His approach honours L'Abattoir's legacy while evolving the menu thoughtfully. Signature dishes like Baked Pacific Oysters with whipped garlic butter and black truffle and the iconic Steak Diane remain guest favourites, alongside new standouts such as Scallop Crudo and roasted Wild BC Halibut.
"Sixteen years is an incredible milestone for any restaurant, and it's a testament to the many talented people who have contributed to L'Abattoir's success over the years," Cruickshank said. "My goal is to honour the restaurant's history while continuing to evolve the dining experience in meaningful ways."
The wine program, led by Head Sommelier Peter Van de Reep, won Gold for Best French Wine List and Silver for Best Premier Wine List at the 2026 Vancouver International Wine Festival Wine Excellence Awards. Bar Manager Alexa Gervais oversees the cocktail program, where signature cocktails like the Avocado Gimlet remain favourites alongside new creations including a bubbly twist on single malt Scotch and tequila-and-orange popsicles.
L'Abattoir is located at No. 1 Gaoler's Mews in Gastown.
